So Netflix is releasing this animated movie but here’s the thing - all backgrounds are done in AI. No actual BG artists were hired or credited for this work.
And here’s the kicker - I gave them too much credit. I realized that not even the AI users are credited apparently. Check this out:

I know it’s tempting, but please don’t hate-watch this thing. Numbers equal profit even if the people watching are just doing it to mock. Don’t give Netflix and other studios even more incentive to fire more animators and replace them with machines trained on their work and skill.
Hilarously, the excuse used is ‘there aren’t enough artists’. That’s not true - there are more than enough artists, but the real issue is that no one wants to pay a living wage. Here’s a short video about the reality of animation in Japan.
The biggest winners in this equation at the end of the day are the AI infrastructure owners - owners of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. Do not feed this machine, it creates more monopolization of entire industries, raises a powerful few and dehumanizes the rest.

Corrollary to this, please for the love of God, cis people with guilty consciences, do NOT message trans people to plead your case like you think they’re your fucking Trans Issue Indulgence Dispenser.
For that matter, stop fucking messaging ME about it. I’m a cis male gaming YouTuber, why in the flip-flop flying fricassee fuck do you think my approval fucking matters?
You’re not getting a seven hail Marys and a genuflection to absolve this. Sit with your actions and own them like an adult. You wanted your Treats™️ more than you wanted to make the universe’s easiest gesture if support for people being persecuted. You resented being asked to give up the slightest little thing for someone else.
People who say they are allies to trans people but still buy the wizard game are demonstrating that they are unwilling to deny themselves anything, even something as trivial as an entertainment product to live by what they say their values are.
It’s not hard to extrapolate what would happen if the stakes for them were higher, and I absolutely can’t blame anybody with a trans identity never trusting someone who does this.
Every day I discover forms of art I could not have concieved of before, and suddenly I am in awe of being alive.
